Giving sport a second life

BALAO designs premium sneakers made from sports waste such as used soccer balls, tennis balls, and recycled tires.

Designed in Belgium and produced in Portugal, BALAO sneakers are made from 90% recycled and bio-based materials, combining style, sustainability, and authenticity.

The company proves that it is possible to uphold your values without sacrificing elegance.
Each pair embodies a powerful message: sports leave a mark, and BALAO gives them a second life.

The mission?

BALAO champions a powerful vision: that of desirable, responsible, and meaningful fashion.

The brand doesn't just produce shoes; it reinvents the way sport, fashion, and sustainability intertwine.

"Sport doesn't stop when the final whistle blows. With BALAO, it lives on at your feet."

1) The issue: the hidden footprint of sport

Sport evokes universal emotions, but it also generates silent pollution that is still largely ignored.

Every year:

  •  40 million soccer balls are produced worldwide
  • 125 million tennis balls are thrown away (taking up to 400 years to decompose)
  • 1 billion used tires are discarded, 97% of which end up in landfills
  • 24 billion pairs of sneakers are produced, 90% of which end up in landfills, mainly in Asia

Faced with this situation, no fashion brand had yet taken up the challenge of transforming sports waste into circular, high-end footwear.

BALAO is changing the game.

2) The solution: circular sneakers with a real impact

Each pair of BALAO sneakers is the result of a concrete and virtuous transformation: turning sports waste into a stylish and sustainable product without compromising on quality or aesthetics.

Made in Portugal, BALAO sneakers use up to 90% recycled and bio-based materials, sourced exclusively from Europe.

The materials used:

  • Used soccer balls, tennis balls, or recycled tires → incorporated into the outsoles
  • Vegan apple leather → made from apple waste for the upper part of the shoe
  • Corn fibers and recycled plastic bottles → used for the lining and laces

BALAO's commitments:

  • 100% vegan
  • 100% made in Europe
  • 0% greenwashing

Each model tells an authentic story: that of a ball, a match, or a race track, becoming a symbolic piece that combines sport, design, and environmental impact.

3) Key achievements

BALAO quickly demonstrated the relevance of its model and the strength of its positioning in the sustainable fashion market.

Traction & sales

  • Over 500 pairs sold
  • €65,000 in revenue
  • Presence in five physical retail outlets, including Maniet Luxus and Yuman Village

4) Partnerships & collaborations

BALAO has already signed agreements with several prestigious B2B players, including professional sports clubs and renowned partners:

  • Standard de Liège (a collection that sold out in just 50 minutes)
  • Union Saint-Gilloise
  • RAAL La Louvière
  • Spa-Francorchamps Circuit

These collaborations have led to the creation of customized sneakers made from their own sports waste: a first in Europe.

5) Media recognition

BALAO has been featured in numerous national media outlets:
RTBF, LN24, Trends Tendance, La Libre Belgique, L’Avenir, and L’Écho, confirming the brand's growing visibility.

6) Ambition

BALAO aims to become the European leader in circular sneakers, combining innovation, creativity, and measurable environmental impact.

Growth roadmap:

  • 2025 → Market consolidation in Belgium and Luxembourg
  • 2026 → Launch of new collections from other sports (tennis and motorsports)
  • 2027 → Expansion into France, the Netherlands, and Germany
  • 2030 → Positioning as the European benchmark for circular fashion inspired by sports

The BALAO model is scalable and sustainable:

 Each sport → a new material → a new collection → a new impact.

Goal: to achieve 1% of the European sustainable sneaker market by 2030.

7) Why is BALAO seeking funding?

BALAO raises €570,000 to accelerate its growth and strengthen its leadership in the European circular sneaker market.

The objective is clear: to scale up an already proven model while consolidating its commercial, logistical, and product foundations.
