What happens if the tax reduction is greater than my income tax? Can I get a refund?
No. Your personal income tax can be reduced to zero, but you will not receive a refund. The tax reduction is only applicable to the amount of tax due.
For example, if you pay €10,000 in income tax, the maximum amount of the reduction that applies under the tax shelter mechanism will be €10,000.
Note: if your personal income tax was automatically deducted at source, as is the case for all employees in Belgium, the amount due to you under the tax shelter will be effectively refunded.
